- Florida rapper T-Pain is back with Thr33 Ringz, a "polished and self-fulfilling collection of hip-pop singles" that are "drenched in what already sounded like last year's sound a couple years ago," according to Slant magazine. T-Pain has had "his Auto-Tuned swagger jacked by everyone from Kanye to Lil Wayne, but he has kept his sound fresh with a bottomless bag of hooks and a grainy rasp that the computers can’t buff away," applauds Blender.
- Puerto Rican hip hop-reggaetón duo Calle 13 drop Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo (The Ones Left Behind Me Are Coming With Me). The Houston Press can hardly contain its excitement: "Combining the fun of its debut with the follow-up's sonic adventurism, Conmigo is a genre-redefining — if not genre-shattering — triumph." The New York Times is just a wee bit more reserved: "Few hip hop or urban acts, in any language, match so much ambition to so much fun."
- American Idol runner-up David Archuleta releases his self-titled debut. Described as "one of those once-in-a-decade pop voices" by Billboard, the 17-year-old singer is "too sweet to be sexy," according to Rolling Stone. "[Y]ou glimpse hints of how his innate tenderness might triumph if he weren't saddled with the most generic writing and production money can buy," laments Entertainment Weekly.
- R&B singer and longtime Kanye West collaborator John Legend releases his third album, Evolver. "Even when soul singer John Legend is proposing one of the traditionally worst ideas in romance — sleeping with his best friend — he still makes a pretty convincing argument," chuckles The Los Angeles Times. "Smooth to a fault, Evolver solidifies Legend's standing in the pantheon of good soul singers, but greatness continues to elude him," writes The Onion's A.V. Club.
- Former A Tribe Called Quest frontman Q-Tip returns with The Renaissance after a 10-year "hiatus." AllMusic calls it a "worthy comeback for the man who's arguably done more to make hip-hop enjoyable than any other figure," while U.K. newspaper The Guardian underscores that the "album's frequent changes of mood and direction dazzle." Spin magazine agrees: "Up-tempo and uplifting, this largely self-produced record blurs distinctions between accessibility and avant-gardism."

Chris Brown's most popular video collaborations

Chris Brown is on fire. Blessed with good looks and radiating the charisma that has earned him comparisons to Michael Jackson, the 19-year-old singer-dancer has already earned two platinum albums. But he didn't do it alone. From his beginnings as a small-town song and dance prodigy to his current pop superstar status, Breezy has never been afraid to share the spotlight.
Here's a look at Chris Brown's most popular video collaborations:
"Run It" featuring Juelz Santana:

In 2005, Chris Brown was an unknown 16-year-old from Tappahannock, Virginia when he dropped "Run It!," a high-octane club jam featuring Dipset's Juelz Santana. The single, reminiscent of Usher's Dirty South Yeah, was number one in the U.S. for five weeks.
"Gimme That" (Remix) featuring Lil Wayne:

After following "Run It!" with the puppy love ballad Yo (Excuse Me Miss), Brown decided to move butts and hearts with "Gimme That." Lil Wayne shows up on the remix to kick one of his signature so-lazy-it's-good verses.
Brown's self-titled 2005 debut spawned three top ten singles. Two years later, on "Kiss Kiss," the second single from his second album, Exclusive, Brown enlisted the help of T-Pain, the commercial genius behind "Buy U a Drank" and "Bartender" featuring Akon. Well played, Breezy, well played.
"Shawty Get Loose" by Lil Mama:

In early 2008, Chris Brown reunited with T-Pain to guest on Lil Mama's "Shawty Get Loose," an electric track that finds Brown and Teddy P switching things up: T-Pain drops a rap verse while Breezy adds a vocoder&B chorus between Lil Mama's rapid-fire flow.
By the time Chris Brown teamed up with American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, he already had two back-to-back hits under his belt. With her second single, "No Air," Brown chalked up another hit and Sparks reached number one on the Billboard chart.

Flo Rida

If you're wondering what kind of an effect the 2 Live Crew has on young people, just ask Tramar Dillar, aka Flo Rida.
At age 15, Dillar was hanging out with the legendary rap group behind such infamous hits as Me So Horny and Do Wah Diddy. Now 24, the muscular MC has had the number one song in the country for the last two months. The booty-shaking club anthem Low is Flo Rida's debut single and features fellow Floridian T-Pain along with thumps and claps reminiscent of 2 Live Crew's greatest jams – minus the explicit lyrics.
A multi-sport athlete who has also tried his hand at acting, Flo Rida started rapping in his teens as a member of Carol City hip hop trio Groundhoggz. In 2001, he partnered with 2 Live Crew’s Fresh Kid Ice to perform locally but was unable to woo any labels. In search of a break, Flo Rida flew out to Los Angeles to record demos for Jodeci’s DeVante, who later hooked him up with Public Enemy hypeman – and reality TV star – Flava Flav.
After a disappointing three years on the West Coast, Flo Rida returned to the Sunshine State without a deal. Several mixtape appearances and a guest spot on B*tch I'm from Dade County from DJ Khaled’s most recent release, We the Best, reversed his fortune. In 2006, Flo Rida inked a deal with indie Poe Boy Entertainment, home of Miami standout Rick Ross.
A sign that there's more to come: Flo Rida's Low is featured on the Step Up 2 the Streets soundtrack along with tracks by Akon, Enrique Iglesias, Missy Elliot and Plies. His debut album, Mail On Sunday, will be released in March and includes collaborations with Trey Songz, Jazze Pha and Rick Ross. And while Flo Rida’s latest single, the Timbaland-produced Elevator, may not match the success of Low, it's another sure-fire dance floor dazzler.
